Finding reliable wholesale suppliers is one of the most important steps in building a profitable FBA business on amazon.ie. Irish sellers have several strong sourcing options — from domestic Irish wholesalers to EU distributors and global platforms like Alibaba.
Wholesale vs private label — which model suits you?
Wholesale — you buy branded products in bulk from a distributor at trade price and resell them on amazon.ie. Lower barriers to entry, established demand, but competitive margins and shared listings with other sellers.
Private label — you manufacture a product (usually in China via Alibaba) under your own brand. Higher margins, your own listing, but more capital required upfront and longer lead times.
Most Irish FBA sellers start with wholesale and move to private label as they build capital.
Finding Irish and UK wholesale suppliers
Showcase Ireland — held annually in the RDS Dublin in January, this is Ireland's largest trade show for gift, homeware, and lifestyle products. Ideal for discovering Irish-made and Irish-distributed brands with no other Amazon sellers yet.
National Ploughing Championship — the world's largest agricultural show, held in County Laois each September. Excellent for farm, outdoor, and rural lifestyle products with genuine Irish heritage appeal.
The Irish Pharmacy Union (IPU) show and Irish franchise and business expos are also worth attending depending on your category.
UK trade shows — as Ireland and the UK share very close trade ties, UK-based distributors frequently supply into the Irish market. Shows like Spring Fair Birmingham, Top Drawer, and Pure London are worth attending for gift, homewares, and fashion.
Online B2B directories for Irish sellers
Faire (faire.com) — a popular European wholesale marketplace connecting independent brands with retail buyers. Strong selection of EU and UK brands. Minimum orders are typically low, making it accessible for new FBA sellers.
Ankorstore — similar to Faire, with strong coverage of European independent brands, particularly French, German, and Italian products that are underserved on amazon.ie.
Wholesale Clearance UK — liquidation and clearance stock at deep discounts. Higher risk but very low cost of goods — suitable for sellers comfortable with mixed lots.
Go Wholesale and AW Dropship — UK-based directories with Irish shipping.
Sourcing from China via Alibaba
For private label products, Alibaba is the primary sourcing platform. Most Irish FBA sellers using private label source manufactured goods from Chinese factories and ship them directly to Amazon fulfilment centres — either via air freight (5–10 days) or sea freight (25–35 days).
When sourcing from Alibaba, filter for Verified Suppliers and always use Trade Assurance for payment protection. Order samples before committing to bulk production.
Import duty and 23% Irish import VAT apply on goods entering Ireland from outside the EU. Your freight forwarder handles customs clearance — the import VAT is reclaimable if you are VAT-registered with Revenue.
What to look for in a wholesale supplier
- Minimum order quantities you can meet on your current budget
- Trade pricing that leaves at least 30–40% margin after all Amazon fees
- A clear returns and damaged goods policy
- The ability to supply FNSKU-labelled or retail-ready packaging
- References from other Amazon sellers (ask directly — good suppliers are happy to provide them)
Always calculate your FBA profit margin before placing a wholesale order. The buying price needs to account for Amazon's referral fee, FBA fulfilment fee, VAT, and advertising spend before you will know whether the product is genuinely profitable.
