FBA stands for Fulfilled by Amazon. It is a service where you send your products to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon takes care of everything that happens next — storing the stock, picking and packing each order, delivering it to the customer, and handling any returns or customer service queries.
Amazon.ie launched as a standalone Irish marketplace in 2021, giving Irish sellers direct access to customers across Ireland without needing to route through Amazon UK or other European marketplaces.
How FBA works for Irish sellers
As an Irish FBA seller on amazon.ie, your role is:
- Source your products
- Send inventory to the Amazon fulfilment centre assigned to your account
- Create and manage your product listings on amazon.ie
- Set pricing, run advertising, and manage restocking
Amazon handles all physical fulfilment once your stock arrives at their warehouse.
FBA vs FBM on amazon.ie
FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) — Amazon stores and ships your products. Your listings earn a Prime badge and qualify for fast delivery, which significantly improves conversion rates with Irish shoppers.
FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) — You store products yourself and ship each order directly when it comes in. No Prime badge. Lower fees, but all logistics are your responsibility.
Most serious Irish sellers use FBA because the Prime badge and fast delivery are major buying triggers for customers on amazon.ie.
What does FBA cost on amazon.ie?
FBA fees on Amazon Ireland come from two main sources:
FBA fulfilment fee — charged per unit sold, based on size and weight. Small items start at around €2.18; standard parcel items are around €4.10. These are separate from storage fees.
Storage fee — charged monthly per cubic metre of warehouse space your inventory occupies.
Both are in addition to Amazon's referral fee — typically 15% of the sale price — which applies to every sale regardless of fulfilment method.
VAT and FBA in Ireland
Ireland's VAT rate is 23% — higher than the UK's 20%. Irish VAT applies to Amazon's FBA and referral fees regardless of your VAT registration status.
The Irish VAT registration threshold is €40,000 in annual turnover — significantly lower than the UK's £90,000 threshold. Irish FBA sellers often hit the registration point faster than they expect. Once registered, you can reclaim VAT paid on Amazon's fees against your output VAT, which materially improves your margins.
Pan-European FBA for Irish sellers
As an EU-based seller, Irish sellers on amazon.ie can also use Pan-European FBA — Amazon distributes your inventory across fulfilment centres in multiple EU countries (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, etc.) to enable fast delivery across the EU. This brings additional VAT obligations in each country where Amazon stores your goods, but dramatically increases your addressable market.
Is FBA worth it for Irish sellers?
For most Irish FBA sellers, yes — particularly for products in the €20–€70 range where the fees leave a workable margin. The combination of Prime eligibility, zero fulfilment overhead, and access to the growing Irish consumer base on amazon.ie makes FBA the default choice for building a scalable product business in Ireland.
