Setting up an Amazon FBA business in Ireland involves choosing the right business structure, getting your tax affairs in order, registering on amazon.ie, and sourcing your first product. Here is the complete setup process for Irish sellers.
Choose your business structure
Sole trader — the simplest structure to set up. You trade under your own name (or a business name registered with the CRO) and file income tax through Revenue's Online Service (ROS). No company formation required. Suitable for testing the model with low capital.
Irish limited company (Ltd) — more admin overhead but protects personal assets, can be more tax-efficient at higher turnover, and looks more professional to suppliers. Requires registration with the Companies Registration Office (CRO) and annual accounts filing. Most FBA sellers forming a company use an accountant.
Most new Irish FBA sellers start as sole traders and convert to a limited company once revenue is established.
Register with Revenue
Whether you are a sole trader or limited company, register with Revenue through myAccount (for individuals) or ROS (for businesses). You will receive a Tax Reference Number (TRN) — required to open a business bank account and for VAT registration.
If you expect your turnover to exceed €40,000 in a rolling 12-month period, register for VAT immediately. The Irish standard rate is 23%. Once registered, you charge VAT on your sales and reclaim it on eligible business expenses — including Amazon's fees, supplier invoices, and freight costs.
Open an Irish euro business bank account
You need a euro bank account with an Irish IBAN to receive proceeds from your amazon.ie sales. Options include:
- AIB, Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank — traditional Irish banks, require an in-person appointment
- Revolut Business or Wise Business — fast setup online, lower fees, multi-currency support useful if you also sell on amazon.co.uk or other EU marketplaces
Register as a seller on amazon.ie
Go to sell.amazon.ie and register for a Professional Seller account at €39/month plus VAT. This gives you access to FBA, Sponsored Products advertising, bulk listing tools, and detailed analytics. You will need your CRO number (if a limited company), your VAT number (if registered), a euro bank account, and photo ID.
Source your first product
Do not skip product research. Before sourcing, validate:
- Demand — the product has consistent search volume on amazon.ie
- Margin — your landed cost plus Amazon fees plus advertising leaves a net profit of at least 20–25%
- Competition — the top listings don't have thousands of reviews that would be impossible to compete with as a new seller
Wholesale (buying from Irish or EU distributors) is the fastest route to first sales. Private label (manufacturing under your own brand, typically from Alibaba) offers better margins but requires more capital and time.
Send your first FBA shipment
Create a shipment plan in Seller Central and send your labelled stock to the Amazon EU fulfilment centre assigned. Irish sellers using amazon.ie ship to EU fulfilment centres — typically in Germany, France, or Poland — not UK centres. Amazon distributes the stock from there.
Once checked in (1–5 business days), your listing goes live with Prime eligibility.
