There is no separate approval process for FBA itself. FBA is a fulfilment method available to any seller with an active Professional Seller account on amazon.ie. The "approval" most sellers are thinking about relates either to opening the seller account or to selling in specific restricted categories.
Step 1 — Open a Professional Seller account on amazon.ie
Go to sell.amazon.ie and register for a Professional Seller account. You will need:
- A valid Irish or EU business address
- A business email address
- A national ID or passport for identity verification
- A bank account that can receive euro payments
- A credit or debit card for fee payments
- A VAT number (if VAT-registered — not mandatory to begin selling, but required once you exceed the €40,000 Irish VAT threshold)
The Professional Seller plan costs €39 per month plus VAT. There is no per-item listing fee, and you can list unlimited products. Amazon will verify your identity during registration — this typically takes 24–48 hours.
Step 2 — Enable FBA on your listings
Once your account is active, you can set any listing to FBA fulfilment. When creating or editing a listing, select "Fulfilled by Amazon" under the fulfilment options. Amazon will then generate a shipment plan telling you where to send your stock.
Step 3 — Category approvals (where required)
While FBA itself needs no approval, certain product categories on amazon.ie require Amazon's permission before you can list. These include:
- Grocery & Gourmet Foods
- Health & Beauty (some subcategories)
- Jewellery & Watches
- Automotive
- Collectibles
- Fine Art
To apply for category approval, go to Seller Central → Inventory → Add a Product → search for your item → if the category is restricted, you will see a "Request Approval" button. Amazon typically asks for invoices from a legitimate supplier, product images, and sometimes safety documentation.
What Irish sellers need before going live
Before you send your first shipment to an Amazon fulfilment centre, make sure you have:
- FNSKU barcodes generated in Seller Central for each product
- Product listings created and set to FBA
- A shipment plan created in Seller Central — Amazon will assign a fulfilment centre for your goods
- Stock correctly labelled — each unit needs an FNSKU label applied before Amazon can receive it
VAT registration and FBA in Ireland
You are not required to be VAT-registered to start selling on amazon.ie. However, once your turnover crosses €40,000 in a rolling 12-month period, Irish VAT registration is mandatory. At that point you must charge 23% VAT on your sales and file VAT returns with Revenue.
Many Irish FBA sellers choose to register voluntarily from the start so they can reclaim VAT on Amazon's fees, supplier invoices, and other business costs — which materially improves their net margin.
